A number of Guidance Information Documents (Health and Safety Alerts) have been prepared by the Occupational Health and Safety Sub-Committee of ACLCA (Vic). These alerts are provided to raise awareness of an important safety issue. They do not replace the need for member companies to review and manage their specific risks.
The US National Safety Council has published (March 2010) an excellent paper titled Understanding the Distracted Brain - Why driving while using hands-free cell phones is risky behavior. This is a well researched paper that clearly shows that using a hands-free phone whilst driving offers no safety benefit over using a phone handheld. And the risks posed by heldheld phone use are well established. To download the paper, click here.
